TONY's MARITIME NET

DAILY, 14315 USB

2100 UTC 9:00am  NZST

This is a very friendly amateur radio net that provides a means of communication between maritime mobiles and land based stations. There are net controllers on both sides of the Tasman and all stations relay reports when conditions are poor.

The net was started about 40 years ago by Tony, ZLIATE (now a silent key) and in those early days boats could be heard from the other side of the world. With the sunspot cycle being at its low, that is no longer possible but we seem to manage.

JOHN - ZLIAQS

who has a wonderfully quiet farm qth in South Auckland, so has a good signal and can hear well. He is sometimes a mm somewhere in the Hauraki Gulf on their catamaran.

DAVE -  ZL3DM

has  moved from Waihi beach to a new qth at Bethlehem, near Tauranga, NZ. He is missing his yagi but successfully uses a remote antenna.

PATRICIA - ZL2RK

who also runs marine coast station Gulf Harbour Radio, ZMH286 from a qth just north of Auckland, NZ.

DAVE - ZL2VY

husband of ZL2RK, who gets called on when weather forecasting is needed.

TREVOR & NORMA - ZL4GD

Qth is Invercargil, the southernmost city of New Zealand's South Island. A challenging QTH but his signal gets across the Tasman very well. Sadly Trevor passed away October 2024.

Andrew and Clare broadcast from their home base in Kiama, NSW or from their sailing yacht Eye Candy anywhere along the east coast of Australia from Queensland to Tasmania. They sailed Eye Candy from the Mediterranean to Australia via the Atlantic and Pacific oceans over a period of 17 years so are experienced in long distance communications with other yachties.

GARY - VK4IBC

Gary has a great QTH on a hill at Hervey Bay Queensland. He has been a keen ham for over 30 years and as a previous boat owner retains his interest in the maritime world.

ASHLEY & BRENDA - VK4FUU

Usually a mm on their boat in and around Townsville but also can be portable in their motor home.  2019 added a home QTH so plenty of options.
Picture

CHRISTIAN & HANNELOrE - ZL1DIY

Qth in Russel, in NZ's Bay of Islands, overlooking the entrance to Opua. Onboard SV Donella, Christian is often a mm. (Hannelore sadly passed away in 2020).

GEORGE - VK4GSF

QTH is Queensland, Sunshine Coast. Not as elevated as Toowoomba but good for radio nevertheless.

BEVAN- VK5APV

Picture
After many years farming  Bevan and Jan cruised the Australian Coast, Vanuatu and New Caledonia for over 12 years .
They returned home to Wallaroo South Australia but now cruise half the year in their land 'yacht' - a lovely big caravan. Bevan has been a ham since 1958.

Tony- ZL1BHU

Tony has been involved in many aspects of the marine industry both in his working and recreational life. He has travelled the world during his merchant seaman days then explored coastal NZ and the SW Pacific sailing with his late wife Susan and their family. Now he volunteers on a replica traditional sailing vessel on Auckland harbour. And cuts firewood to keep fit!
